NYC Trip

Heather tended to not complain very much, except when her feet got tired or she got real sleepy. For instance, on the train ride home on Tuesday, she kept saying, "I seepy, take me home. Seepy seepy seepy." (She talks baby-talk, omitting all l's, when she's trying to get attention to show how tired she is.) She's much happier when she's not having to deal with her parents every night; her parents are not evil but they're occasionally the wrong kind of parents for someone like Heather to have.

Abbreviated:

Friday: [The Day of Driving] Drive home, stop for Chinese food at the China Wok in Binghamton, arrive kinda late.

Saturday: [The Day of Heather's First Time in The City] Drove downtown to the Metropolitan, ea$y parking; walked around that for a couple hours, had lunch in the cafe there, drove downtown to the village, miraculously found a space, walked around Washington Square for a little bit, looked in Tower Records for a bit and then went into some boutiques on Broadway.

Sunday: [The Day of Restful Things] Went to the Hayden Planetarium; drove again. Parking much tougher this time, though free. I amazed Heather by getting the car into a space with like barely a foot of room on each end. Saw the sky show, walked around the planetarium for a bit. Then walked around the neighborhood a little, got deli sandwiches and ate in Central Park where it seemed everybody in the entire world was rollerblading. Did some clothes shopping and looked for a gift for Kate. This was the day we saw the big truck accident on the way home. Tried but failed to get to Bloomingdales (closed) in White Plains, then we caught "Outbreak" at the multiplex.

Monday: [The Day of Black Lipstick] Took the train this time, though stupidly I drove from my house to the train which was dumb because parking at the Chappaqua train station was a real pain, almost worse than UB; went to the village and Bloomingdales. Tried to contact Angela at work but her line was always always always busy. Big promotion going on. Later, we met my parents, my brother, and his girlfriend for dinner at a diner in White Plains.

Tuesday: [The Day of Grad School] Mom drove us to the train; we went to Columbia on the subway and Heather meets with someone in the math department there that she'd made an appointment with. I spend an hour wandering through bookstores. Met up with Heather again, we do some more wandering in bookstores and then we go downtown to Times Square to meet Angela after work for dinner. Heather regales Angela's officemates with a sordid tale of her ex-boyfriend woes, and then we go eat at the Olive Garden.

Wednesday: [The Day of Brake Jobs] Sidelined for car repairs (which I eventually drop $414 on), we don't leave until 3pm or so. Dinner again in Binghamton, same place, and then we get to Buffalo.
