Sometimes Elyse would come in and try to read her mail. She'd invariably be irritated by the little popping noises, and she would make him stop. Sometimes he wouldn't stop and she'd get mad and take the bubblewrap away from him. Davin could never explain why he did it except to say, "Well, bubblewrap is just neat."
Davin's relatives came to visit Buffalo at graduation time, to see Davin get his Ph.D. Elyse was very gracious, politely greeting everybody and being the perfect hostess. She left the living room for a bit, and when she came back she found his cultured, intelligent, highly educated relatives had all drifted into the kitchen, and were standing around talking, and popping the bubblewrap.
